I have a friend who insists that her cats eat nothing less than Iams and Eukanuba. I have recently learned right here on Yahoo Answers, that they are both subsidiaries of Proctor and Gamble, whom I've boycotted for nearly twenty years because of their abuse of animals in testing their products!
Purina's job is to produce food for all sorts of animals and they do a great job of it. My cats have always eaten Purina Kitten and Cat Chow, as well as Friskies. They make an excellent product that cats actually LIKE, and at a reasonable price. I have had cats live to be as old as nineteen on this diet.
I asked my vet once his opinion of feeding the less expensive foods; he replied that he fed his own dog Purina Dog Chow. But please stay away from the bargain brands; according to my vet, they aren't monitored for quality as the Purina etc. brands are.

Cheaper brands of cat food such as the ones sold at Wal-Mart are NOT better for your cats. They often contain a lot of fillers and your cats will not be getting as much nutrition as they should. Personally I've had good success with Eukanuba and Science Diet Hairball Control.
Since you have two kittens, it's probably a good idea to feed all your cats kitten food, though you will have to watch your adult cat to make sure they are not gaining too much weight. If possible, feed your cats separately.
If you are on a tight budget, what is going to happen if your cats need medical attention? Are you planning to spay/neuter them? Animals need a lot of care, and sometimes this can get expensive. Well, good luck with your cats!

I realize that Eukenuba and some others are very good, but I've found that old fashioned Purina has a great line of cat foods and they're way more affordable than the pricier brands. I don't think they're any less healthy either. You should stay away from some of the off-name brands though, some of them don't contain the nutrients the cat needs, and some make it much more likely your cats will get urinary track infections, which is bad.

I had a cat that lived 13 years on Kit'n Kaboodle cat food. It's not expensive but yet not super cheap either. My 2 cats I have now eat the same thing. I get a huge bag for around $10.00.

Check Consumer Reports. I feed my cat Science Diet because they said it was the best cat food, but Iams tastes better.

i have 5 adult cats, ranging in age from 3 to 5 yrs old.
i can tell you this, your kittens nedd kitten chow, your cat needs cat chow. different vitamans and such for growth and weight management. if this is impossible, mix adult/kitten chow about 50/50, when the kittens approach a year old, start adding more adult chow to the mix for a few weeks before they get straight adult food.
i feed nutro max for indoor cats.
it's about middle $$$. however, i noticed the difference in my cats health and behavior w/in a week.
have fun w/your babies!

check the nutritional list, always pick the on that has the lesser amount of fiber, this is only added for bulk and cannot be digested, and will cause more stool in the kitty box. and will require the kitty to eat more of the food to equal the nutrition of cat food with less fiber.

Cheaper brands load up rice and corn, which too much isn't very healthy. There are some "cheap" brands that do not do this - Purina One is a good one.
