Yes, in this day in age, you better get those corrected before you leave. Why risk an issue when you can correct it before you leave.

That'll especially cause problems if it doesn't match your passport. You may be able to get away with it if you're a female, but if you're a male, I wouldn't even try to enter like that. Depending on whose mistake it was (the people in the US or the people at home), it may be easy to fix. If you can't get it fixed, I'd recommend getting a letter from your visa sponsor stating the problem and with their contact info so when the Port of Entry officer stops you, it may make things a little bit easier.
