Yes, it can be humorous but be careful with "inside jokes" just between you two. Instead of sitting down with a pen and paper use a tape recorder. Then you can compile your best thoughts on paper. Good Luck!!!

Go somplace quiet & write; just write....from your heart.
Then get away from it for awhile.
When you go back to what you've written, you will find some gems among the scribblings. Use these to compose your vow.
Be mindful of the wording but sound like yourself.
The vows should be no longer than 60-90 seconds. Any longer & people begin to think you just like to hear yourself talk. Got more to say? Save it for your private time.

Writing your own vows is just that writing your own vows. You can say whatever you want. Just reflect on your whole relationship from day 1 to now. What he's brought to your life and what he means to you. Straight from the heart.

I am NOT a good writer... I knew I wanted "custom" vows, so I went on Google and was searching for "wedding vows". I found many ideas, and was trying to combine them this way and that way. However, the final version of the vows was written by my MOH, who is a brilliant writer. She really hit the nail on the head, the vows were awesome. If you know someone who is good with words, I recommend you ask for their help. Congrats!

Yeah I think being humorous is a good idea, but don't over do it. I'm sure you can think of something but don't try to wrack your brain for the "perfect" words. It will be a memorable time in your life no matter what you say. So just give it time, take a big breath and just think of what made you fall in love with him. Good luck, and congratulations!

You can write wedding vows any way you want. How about: "I'm so thankful you're not Oliver Wendell Douglas... "Green Acres" is NOT the place to be, and farm living's not the life for me. I'll change that attitude to walk beside such a wonderful person as God has helped me find in you. You're special, as is this special day we both share today...As special as the wonderful life we'll always have together. I love you and always will."

Write from your heart...and you can be as funny or serious as you desire...they are your vows and it's your ceremony. You'll be just as married if you deliver a deadpan serious speech, as you will if you have 'em rolling in the aisles laughing.
Congrats and good luck!

While I was searching I found some from a woman named Cassie and I really liked a lot of what she said maybe they will inspire you or you can take some of what she said and make it your own:

Try recording you thoughts. Sit and just thing about what he means to you and has things come to your mind, say them out loud and record yourself.

Buy a hallmark card and copy the inside. It's a lot easier and those people are professionals you know, that's their job.
