Don't you think he would have made instant believers out of everyone if he started floating around and zapping Roman Soldiers with Lightning bolts ?

That would have been SO cool!

But then it sort of would make him seem like a hypocrite. I mean the whole love your enemy thing would be out the window.

But it would be cool if he did that. And he could say super hero stuff like "Here's a face full of 'Pox' Romana for you!" right when he's blasting someone.

There's a number of reasons.

Because the Jewish ruling council (at the time- I don't blame anyone alive today for that) saw His teachings as a threat to their power...

Because Pilate was more concerned about his own a-- than the truth...

Because that's why He was born, why God sent Him. Jesus paid for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane, overcoming our own foolish behavior. He then died on the cross. He rose again, overcoming mortality, caused by the error made in the Garden of Eden.

The cross is seen as a symbol of Christianity because it's the easiest way to express what He did that weekend... How can you show the emotional, internal suffering of Gethsemane?... How do you express all that an empty tomb means? Displaying a cross is just easier.

Regarding why He didn't just start "floating around and zapping Roman Soldiers with lightning bolts?"..... faith and love are more consistent motivaters than fear and sensationalism.

He died for our sins, so that we dont have to sacrifice animals as in the old days before christ.....He was also fufilling prophecy...And Jesus wouldnt float around and zap Roman Soldiers...Even though they helped crucify him, he still loved them..

There is no actual proof the Jesus died on the cross. There were no doctors to verify death. It was not unknown for legionaires to be bribed by friends or family of the person on the cross. They would take down the "body" and give it over to those paying the bribe without checking for actual death. Remember crucifixion was a common everyday thing for them. You could be crucified for everything from petty theft to treason civilly, and then the religionists had their own list of "crimes."

Yours, is another question of faith....not evidence.

I can't believe how many people on this Yahoo Answers need to ask so many ignorant questions. Obviously, you don't read the Bible. If you did, you would know the answers. Jesus became sin, who knew no sin, and became the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. He died for you because He loved people so much He didn't want them to perish and suffer the separation from Himself. God made a way to Himself that no one but God could make. By sending Jesus in human form, He became the ultimate sacrifice for sin. Adam brought sin into the world. Jesus came to save us from that sin.

No to your second question. Why? Because NO ONE liked the Roman Armada back then, except the Romans that is. The Messiah died on the cross as the ultimate act of love and sacrifice for ALL of humanity! "Greater love has no man than he who would lay down his life for another."

He didn't come to make instant believers out of men. He came to make a way for us to live again. For that to happen, He had to die. He knew this, and was prepared for it. If all the miracles he did didn't make believers out of them, then him saving Himself wouldn't have done it either.

He didn't die on the cross for our sins. He atoned in the Garden for our sins. He died on the cross to bring about the resurrection, which would make it possible for us to live again. Him dying on the cross was the final act of love for us. The biggest thing is the atonement. Most people don't mention that, but the atonement is when He took the sins of the world on Himself. We all need to remember that His dying on the cross isn't what saves us. It's the blood he split in the Garden, the act of him atoning that saves us from sin.

Jesus died on the cross because of our sins. Our sins put us at emnity with God. To bring us back into a right relationship with God, blood had to be shed, and only that by someone sinless. In Hebrews, it says that without the shedding of blood, there can be no forgiveness (remission) of sin. There had to be a payment of our sins. If we were to pay for our own sins, then we would rightfully end up in hell. Because Christ willingly died on the Cross for us, those that place their trust in him are made righteous because of his blood, and are assured a place in heaven with God. As human beings we will still sin, but we can now go to God and confidently ask Him for forgiveness of our sins in Christ's name.

Because no one would be saved if all Jesus did was zap people. That's for the final judgment!

No, the human being cannot be convinced especially since all of the miracles didn't make believers out of everybody, for example the pharisees. So it wouldn't make a difference to do another miracle. Therefore he had to become the ultimate sacrifice for our sins, so that we who believe in Him may be forgiven for our sins, and allowed to enter heaven.
