If I am understanding your question correctly I have a couple of suggestions. First, I assume you will be using the gold leaf sheets that come in book form with tissue paper in between. Cut a piece of wax paper to the approximate size of the gold leaf sheet (you can use the front cover of the book as a template). Carefully lay the wax paper over a gold leaf sheet and gently rub the wax paper with the palm of your hand. The heat from your hand will make the gold leaf stick to the wax paper. At this point you will be able to move the gold leaf more easily with the wax paper. Plunk gold leafed side down on a prepared tacky surface and pat the leaf carefully over the desired area with fingers etc. on the wax paper, peel it off very very carefully and finish laying down the gold leaf with a soft brush.
Alternatively, there are gold leaf pens available in most craft stores. They are great for filling in small areas that two to three layers of gold leaf still seem to miss. Krylon's 18 KT. Gold Leafing Pen is the best one I've found for touch ups and filling in small spots.
Though beautiful, gold leaf can be a real pain to work with. I hope this makes it a little easier for you.

I'm not sure what your question is, but I buy gold leaf (it's not actually gold, but very close) at the arts and crafts store in town. It's about $8 per 25-leaf book. I use spray adhesive and a special badgerhair brush, though they recommend a gold sizing liquid (probably because they sell it). It requires a very steady hand and plenty of patience.
