Cats are clean animals and they tend to look at their "owners" as being one of thier kittens. So in essence you are getting a bath from your cat.

Every cat I have ever owned likes to lick me all over. My current cats a boy and a girl, only the girl licks me. She will do my hands and even on my face. I think its so funny. Personally I want to think its because she wants to take care of me like I take care of her, so I think its about affection.

I've had cats my whole life and I've never had a cat lick me until I got a new kitten for Christmas, and she licks me and my husband all the time, and she is the most loving kitten I have ever had ! I believe it's affection. :)

It's most likely affection I have had many cats and they all do that I don't think all cats would like the taste of salt.

My female cats does this, too. I think that when it starts it may be the salt, but if they get a positive reaction out of it, then it becomes a loving thing to do. They're 'cleaning' you as they would any other animal they care about.

Only one of my three cats does this, and he's by far the most loveable one, so I'm going for affection.

some cats its love!
we have a joke around here though, we live in sw mich, new cougar area. we found out cougars lick the meat off their kill. so now we say our cats are very slowly eating us!! :)
