Wrong.

Animals don't only do it for reproduction. They don't actually have that concept. Only HUMANS have that concept, otherwise Dogs would start a condom plant.

Animals do it SEASONALLY.

Women do it, only when they run out of lame excuses not to.

Men do it as often as they can with anything that walks on two or four legs.

Humans, dolphins and Bonobo Chimps have sex for pleasure. And in the case of humans, there is actually an ill-defined but definite monthly breeding cycle based on the female menstrual cycle.

No-one programmed anyone to do anything... we evolved that way. Sex creates a condition of social cohesion... the male stays around for sex and therefore protects and contributes to the group. In Bonobos, sex is used as a currency - and homosexual sex is common. So not so very different from humans...

It is clearly an evolutionary plus to keep a family together for the very long time that it takes to raise a human child. It is also clear that the Catholic Church is not aware of this, given their silly pronouncements on the subject. Some other animals also are always fecund, for the same reason.

Actually, there are numerous species that will copulate willingly at any time, even when procreation is not possible, such as infertile periods of the female's cycle or even in same-gendered situations (dolphins are quite fond of both, for example).

There are a few other animals that have sex for pleasure. Humans do seem a little over concentrated on sex though. Blame corporate america's marketing strategy!

Bonobo monkeys (probably the closest ones to humans), use sex as a greeting, for conflict resolution and post-conflict reconciliation, and as favors traded by the females in exchange for food.

Bonobos are the only non-human apes to have been observed engaging in all of the following sexual activities: face-to-face genital sex (most frequently female-female, then male-female and male-male), tongue kissing, and oral sex.

most animals must be born at a certain time of the year to survive (usually in summer) so they have sex in spring to make sure their offspring can survive, so some how they ended up being fertile only at that time...
when it comes to humans, since we had discovered how to make a fire and store food, it wasn't that important to have kids at a certain time of the year.... (that's my explanation, i didn't really read it, but it sounds logical!)
