You might have to join the military to work in a military hospital.

If you want to be a nurse for soldiers but don't want to join the military, work at a VA hospital.

military hospitals already employ a large number of civilian medical personnel, from doctors to nurses to techs. In fact, they contract a sizeable percentage of the work to civilians.
