What is meant by domicile and how is it issued?

I am a class XII student who is going to appear for competitions and am really confused that whether the domicile is of the state where the child takes birth or where the child has appeared for intermediate.

"Domicile" usually means where you are currently living or where you were living at the time stated. I could say that my domicile at birth was Anytown, CA, but my current domicile is Sacramento, CA.
