If I fax sensitive details, is there a possibility that a 3rd party can intercept the information? I'm not talking about someone in the office once the fax has arrived, but actually during the transmission of the information. Any help will be gladly received. Thanks!

It's no more likely than having a telephone call tapped. If someone has infiltrated the office and bugged the line then it is feasible, otherwise no - unless they are a government agency...

The signal could be intercepted (phone tap, etc.) and played through a fax machine to reproduce it, but it would still take a human reading the fax to gain the information.

Word recognition software hasn't advanced that far for a computer to decipher all the words. If the fax is a perfectly typed single font message, or something simple like that, then word recognition software could be applied.

If you are worried, you can get a phone scrambler, but the person receiving the fax also needs a receiver unit for your scrambler.

it sure can be possible, But usually this happens when you're using a web fax service........anything that uses a communications signal from one point to another on the web is liable to provide a portal for malicious hackers....I once used my fax machine from my PC and got a message there was some kind of phishing going on in the background from my firewall software....I had to call the sender to let them know...they had their fax number changed and reported the error I got to their carrier for further investigation. But as far as using the telephone line only and not a web fax service, I've never heard of anything like Phishing thru that source of connections...but anything could be possible....

I've got to think that if there's a way to tap into the phone line, there probably IS a way.

I've never heard of an "encrypted" fax line...

anything is possible today. If someone split the line, then they could receive copies of everything you send. the govt. can also split the signal at many points, and redirect it to their offices. Most of these require a court order, but like i said in the first sentence, anything is possible.
