To explain:

It's father's day here in Spain on Sunday 18th - I ordered my dad a special present a while back, and I have just got an email saying it won't arrive until Mon 19 or Tues 20th...

I don't want my dad to think I forgot about him or anything, how can I let him know we've ordered something special without making it look like a last minute attempt??

Thanx 4 your help!

Send him a nice card now with a note saying that a special present was held up in transit and will get there in a day or two.

Call him on Father's Day. Tell him how much you love him and how grateful you are for the sacrifice he has done for you. I know the special gift you send to your father is going to be late. But for a father, there is nothing more wonderful than having his children tell him directly that they love him. And about that special gift, in the end of the conversation, just tell him: "Dad. I have something special on the way. Call me when you have received it. I want to know whether you like it or not. Love you".

I am confused? Why don't you call or email and tell him just that? I have had something special I picked out for you but it's not going to get there in time for Fathers Day. Say you blew it on the timing. (No biggy)

He is your father. I'm pretty sure he won't think anything of it. Just tell him the truth. Since it is a very special present, because it is from you, he will be grateful just for the thought.

just tell him via letter. Say you got him something special but it'll be a couple of days late due to the shipping. He'll be cool wth it :]

Take him out to dinner and then give him a little wrapped up box that has a little note inside that says, "I love you!" Then you can tell him that his gift will be late.

I think you should tell him why you dont have a present and just tell him you love him, then when the present comes just give it to him.
