how easy is it and is it better than paper training

It is no different than paper training, at least to the dog. It depends on which you prefer to clean and which you consider more sanitary or less unsightly.
Any type of "elimination training" is going to be time consuming and fairly trying on your patience - you have to teach a dog to control a natural bodily function that is self-enforcing. If you live in an apartment or condo (especially a highrise) paper or litter training is an advantage as the dog doesn't have to hold it all the way downstairs, which a pup is rarely able to do.

you need PATIENCE but it can be done
just make sure you change the litter as much as possible cause dogs do not like going in the same spot like cats
