I noticed the swollen lymph nodes about 2 weeks after birth. Skin condition comes and goes but has stayed now for about 4 wks. baby is now 9 wks old. The baby has also been treated with antibotics for 10 days at 2 weeks old for an ear infection. No change in the lymph nodes over the course of antibiotics. Doc thinks skin condition is due to laundry detergent allergy. But I did switch to the Dreft and it is still there. He also said as long as the Lymph nodes still move about when you touch them not to worry. It just seems odd to me that they are still protruding and I thought maybe a connection between the skin condition and node situation. Maybe impetigo? Has anyone experienced this?

Get another opinion. Do not stop until you get the answers you need. Things may present differently, and it could be nothing. But, it also could be something. You need to know for sure. The lymph nodes not responding to antibiotics is cause for concern. There are many things that cause lymph nodes to swell, and it's very difficult to test for in a child that size. Please, do your best not to worry, and make sure you get your rest. You won't be any help to your baby if you don't take care of yourself.

Possibly your doctor hasn't given this enough thought. Impetigo is certainly at the top of the list, but after this much time, I believe that culturing a lesion is warranted. A skin scraping in an involved area for fungi ("KOH prep") might also be a good idea. This could also be purely a skin condition, but with the enlarged lymph nodes, an infectious cause is more likely. I would get a second opinion.

I agree with everyone else! Get a different doctor. It does sound like an allergy. Are you bottle feeding? Could be a milk allergy. If you're breast feeding it could be from something you're eating. Your doctor is being irresponsible for allowing this to continue on such a young baby. Get some help soon, please!!!

Time for a second opinion. 9 weeks old is AWFULLY young to have these issues. Contact your local Children's Hospital. They are everywhere.
