IM is unmanageable.

If you're not getting intelligent feedback and conversation in mail or in answers, you won't get it in IM.

I've never opened my IM to the public because that's asking for trouble. I did open my email for awhile, and I now have an entire folder full of hate mail. I'm a Christian, so you can pretty well guess what the bug up those folks' bustle was.

Personally, I would rethink the idea of opening IM to anybody and everybody, if I were you.

I haven't done it either, becuase I am afraid of the attacks and spam. But I think I'll open up another account that has my e-mail available, to see what happens. I would like to be able to talk to people on here.

Both IM and mail.

I've never been attacked, per se. I have disagreed with people, but for the most part, I've gotten intelligent discussions.

You shouldn't do it because people will attack you at the first opportunity they get when they don't agree with something you say. I don't bother to leave any options open. It's not worth it. It's bad enough to deal with abusive answers when you ask a question. But enough is enough. There's no need to go any further then that.

I only got one answer that was a insult from a person named brainstrain to a question. So far I've gotten no insulting ims. I weren't freak out if I did. Thats what deletion is for and blocking.

I don't think IM's are allowed where I work. Either that or I'm hugely unpopular. Or both.
