Roosevelt had pledged the United States to the "good neighbor" policy, transforming the Monroe Doctrine from a unilateral American manifesto into arrangements for mutual action against aggressors.
He also sought through neutrality legislation to keep the United States out of the war in Europe, yet at the same time to strengthen nations threatened or attacked however, when France fell and England came under siege in 1940, he began to send Great Britain all possible aid short of actual military involvement.
It is believed that Churchill pleaded with Roosevelt to join the conflict many times and he refused. Some believe that Churchill had prior knowledge of the impending attack on the Hawaiian islands and did not inform the USA as he knew that this would force Roosevelt to join regardless of his feeling towards the war in Europe. (I cant prove any of what i just stated)
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Roosevelt directed organization of the Nation's manpower and resources for global war. and the USA was in.

We didnt enter the war sooner due to the fact that it was on the otherside of the pond; the US is never aware of anything else going on in the world until someone brings it to us. As a society the US would not have backed that war because it had no effect on us what so ever. Without Pearl Harbor WW2 could have very well turned into having the same political problems as this war did. If you look back on the wars that we have gotten ourselves into if they didnt attack us it was never our problem. Afghanistan no one says anything about because of 911. It was only a matter of time before Saddam did something stupid again we just stopped it before it happened.

the united states didn't enter the war earlier because they had no interests to defend
after the firat world war the u.s wanted to stay out of europea affairs as is well know after the senate's rejection of the league of nations this was because public opinion was that american soldiers would just die in europe for no reason at all
the attact by Japan in pearl habour created a motive to go to war, america had no prior arrangements with any of the european states to come to thier aid in the event of a war so bafore the attack on pearl habour there was no context for war and its important to realise that the losses in human lives of the first world war were still fresh and so public opinion was still set against the war and also before then germany wasnt a direct threat to the Americans who had underestimated the Germans in thinking that France and Britain could defeat them

Technically, as basically one answerer out of the various so a techniques has stated, it did no longer impact the US interior the slightest. A eastern typist at their Washington Embassy became slowly typing up a neat reproduction of their assertion of conflict on a similar time as the bombs have been falling. The Ambassador lost face incredibly via handing it to the U.S. Secretary of State an hour after the attack, rather of a million/2 an hour in the previous it, yet even Tokyo hadn't instructed him what they have been making plans, and how important that made it for him to stick to his timetable. besides, Pearl Harbor or no longer, it became the eastern who declared conflict.

You have to know there was a democrat (secret communist) as president then. He knew that if we resisted getting involved after the Pearl Harbor attack, he would be impeached and removed from office.
Read more about the secret deals the Russians, our supposed ally in WWII, made with Germany behind our back and FDR still stuck by the Russians side until his death. Woodrow Wilson is the one who stopped the war by dropping the bombs on Japan and exposed the Russians for who they were, therefore starting the cold war that was ended by the greatest president of modern times, Ronald Reagan.
The same party that now wants to run out of Iraq and empower the radical islamic terrorists. You have to know also that the majority of the democratic party are secret members of the communist party.

2 reasons:
First, the US was anti-intervention because of WWI and the extreme loss of life there (and incidentally no real resolution to the conflict).
Second, the US didn't have ANY military capacity at the start of the war because of the Great Depression. FDR had to hide the fact that he was building up the military while he was doing it because the US public was vehemently against any action... He couldn't have brought the US into the war even if he had wanted to.
That's why he was holding secret meetings with Churchhill long before we actually did anything. He had to plan for the time when the US would have no choice BUT to join the war. He first started by getting Congress to agree to build more weapons for the Euopeans, and then of course built us up as well...

The united states at that time did not want to become involved in a war in Europe, so what the politicians did was wit held intelligence from the base commanders in Hawaii, and allowed the Japanese to attack and forced America to go to war.

There was substantial domestic anti-war feelings. It partially came from the losses in WWI. Another reason is that many viewed the war as a European War, that is, it was basically the British Empires problem, and not ours. Thirdly, at this time many people still had strong feelings for their home countries, and loyalties were divided among the population.
