Dear,
it's very normal to you not to get used to something right away from the beginning...because the body is like a clock, u can change it the way you want!!
so take it easy, and don't freak out...you will soon get used to sleeping in the dark, it's just a matter of time, you are doing great..keep it up!!

I don't think that's weird at all. Different people have different feelings about the dark. I personally think that everyone should keep the light on! For example,
Once when I was about nine years old, I always kept the light on. But my older 18 year old brother would always turn it off a few hours after I fell asleep. One night I woke up to use the bathroom, I couldn't find the light switch so I felt around with my hands. I Felt for a doorway at a right angle from my room. I found a large square open space. I took a step twoards what I thought was the bathroom, and fell down the stairs.
Luckily my brother is now at college, and the light is left on every night, I ahvent falled down any stairs since.

You mean you can't sleep with the lights off?
The body is conditioned to sleep in the dark - that's what makes the brain produce melatonin, which makes you sleepy. If you are "scared" of the dark, figure out why. Bad dreams? Bad experience as a child? Get soft blankets and sheets, play peaceful music and spray some lavendar on your pillow - these things all relax you and prepare you for sleep.
It may also help to sit in the dark when you're still awake. Give it a few minutes and you'll see your eyes adjust fairly quickly, and the dark won't seem so scary.

This hasn't anything to do with your age. Lots of people have taught themselves to go to sleep only with the radio, TV, or lights on. It's all conditioning.
Try using a low watt night light as a transition. When you reliably sleep comfortably with a low light, then you can go on to no lights. Good luck.

It's not hurting anyone is it?? Sleep with a nightlight on and get some rest !! As long as it isn't hurting anyone or damaging anything, don't worry about it. I used to sleep in total darkness..couldn't sleep any other way. Then I had children..and they like their nightlights. So it sometimes reminds me of a runway in my house with all the nightlights. Now I can't sleep without one myself..lol and honey I'm almost 43.

you will be able to go to bed with the lights off one day, why force and rush yourself. I am 35 and had to have a tv on or some time on till i was 29 and then I had children and they need a night light to get to the bathroom, so you may never have to go to bed in the complete ddark.

Do you still have a rubber sheet and a Teddy Bear also. Your getting to old to believe in the BOOGHIE MAN!
TIME TO GROW UP ....and sleep with the lights "OFF" like anyone else your age, and far younger have long ago learned to do .
People who still sleep with lights on lack maturity.

Get an automatic lamp dimmer (can probably be found at a store like Kids R Us), have someone set it to dim slowwwwwly so that you fall asleep without knowing when it will go out completely.
And don't listen to fsb2u2004 above, he/shes' just yanking your chain!
