people make fun of other people's music for the same reason they make fun of them in general, because of their own insecurities and desire to make themselves feel better. also some people arent comfortable with people who do things outside the norm. I think that is especially true when you are younger, like in high school, because there is a lot of pressure to conform at that age. i'd say dont let other people make you feel like you shouldnt listen to a certain type of music. be proud of your individuality. those who would make fun of it are close minded simple individuals.

Hey you are wrong. Not all people behave in such a rude manner but only those who actually suffer from complexes within them.Music is a very intimate and purely personal affair and no one has a right to criticize others likes and dislikes.Rather you show a remarkable knowledge of music by listening to melodious groups of yonder years.Maybe the person teasing you is himself jealous of your collection. But why in heck do you bother about such smart alecs.Your likes and dislikes are yours and no body has a right to dictate you to listen to which, what and who. Henceforth when you are made fun of or teased, jus admit that you are weird in having such a distasteful choice which you cannot change.By this you'll see they will shut up further teasing or critising you.And last but not the least, why should you bother what others are telling about your choice. Will you change yer likes? If no then why bother.

Teasing and critsizing and judging are all different. To tease some one is to poke a little fun at them but it's not serious, it can get worse and become critising and judging. ex. If you like country your a hick, if you listen to hip hop you grew up in the ghetto or wish you did for some reason. the reason ppl do this is because music is a very defining thing and is taken at face value. Music is a very strong association for people because it's paired with strong images. You like heavy metal you must be a hooligan like devil worshiper, you like country you must love to be on a farm and are conservative, etc. it doesn't make it right but it's just what people do

I know what you mean. It's so irritating when people do that. People get judgmental about someone's taste in music & jump to certain conclusions. I think that's quite shallow. Laugh/smile/Ignore their comments. U dont have to give any explanations or get into any kinda argument or justification for your music pieces. Some just wanna push your buttons or they feel that their taste is the best. U be proud of your music. Your music is unique to you.

Honestly, I think that it is a way of feeling better about themselves - if they put you down for whatever reason, they feel like they are lifting themselves up. It's the same thing as pointing to folks at a mall and laughing becasue of what they are wearing.
They are putting themselves in a position of having the right to judge, pretty powerful stuff if you buy off on it.
And the fact that you don't seem "normal" to them scares them - it's like maybe you know something they don't.

I do easily. i lately moved to Florida after living in Maryland all my existence. I had a really sturdy buddy who exceeded on to the great beyond a procedures earlier his time and earlier I moved, his dad and mom presented me his finished album series because he had informed them he needed me to have it. I cried. What an excellent gesture that he knew may recommend a lot to me. presented back any such vast volume of options for me. I actually have lengthy gone via them yet have not yet listened to all of them. that's basically my opinion. truthfully you should hearken to device, Metallica, Queensryche, and The Who albums. Then i'd bypass on to Iron Butterfly. i respect Tom Petty yet have not heard the album Wildflowers in spite of the undeniable fact that it does have easily one of his hits on it. The Blood, Sweat and Tears album also should be sturdy. i'm in my view no longer a huge fan of heart yet Little Queen replaced into easily one of their maximum efficient albums. don't know a lot about Moby and have not heard any Portishead.

People tease and make fun in an effort to make themselves more secure in their own selection (or lack thereof) Its way of reassuring themselves that they are in the majority by not including certain items in your collection, in THEIR collection.
The ridicule is also to get you to conform to his/her musical standards so that they can rest assured that they are "in the norm". That gives comfort to some people, I guess. Being a Rush fan, I am accustomed to this sort of behavior! :) People often ridicule what they do not understand.

its laughing at what you dont understand. look at the way people make fun of mexican or asian or hell, even canadian culture. its because they dont understand it because their minds are too narrow in scope.
dude, i get paid at least $500 a month for djing over the last 12 months and i'm no big name. if i wasnt into EVERYTHING i wouldn't be getting paid. but i got so much flack in high school for being really into everything... ABBA, Elvis, Black Flag, The Melvins, Akrika Bambatta (sp?).... looking back on it all those kids are working as managers in the mall and i'm travelling doing what i love. it all works out in the end.

Almost everyone has an opinion, whether they state it aloud or not. And as humans, we like to recognize our differences. Those who disagree with your taste in music should do it politely and respect the differences. Their teasing is the inability to respectfully disagree and the inability to accept one's differences without thinking one is better than the other.

Why do people make fun of other people for any other reason? Because by demeaning others (and this is a way to do so), they have a misguided way of feeling better about themselves.
Such people are to be pittied.
