Why do some think Muslims circumcise girls? that's just stupid!?

im a muslim girl, and no im not circumcised. lol
There are some societies who do that. However, it is not a religious thing at all. It would probably be a society or traditional issue. And of course, I disagree with that, as does every Muslim i personaly know.
So hey guys? Get your facts straight!
P.s. I said in my other question that " you say all muslims are terrorists." Obviously not all of us are.
And by the way, I said its a political, not religious issue. People use religion as a way to get what they want. Im not justifying terrorism , but have we all forgotten christian terrorism?
Anotehr thing, i know Muslims who died from suicide bombings and one happened in my country. Of course i am agaisnt it and people dying. Of course, i know what it feels like to be terrorised. Not only christian ones died, or american ones, but many people.
The point is, stop blaming the religion. It is peaceful, i know it more than many people who answered my question do.

It is a society or tradition thing, it is not religious by any means. No, i dont think that these women are stupid or that theyre feelings or sufferings are stupid. I think you ARE stupid! And yes, thank God, i didnt get circumcised.

Of course noone accuses these women of lying, they do suffer from it . And we do feel with them and sympathise greatly . However, they are not all Muslims and it is not in the Islamic Law nor is it in the Quran. It is not religious.

A) some1 inhere asked about y is it ok for boys to get circumcised . it has been scientifically proven that circumcising boys prevent a lot of diseases . This ofcourse proves how Islam is miraculous . Islam has instated for boys to get cercumcised to prove disease that was almost 1500 years ago but its just recently that Science and medicine proved that it does actually prevent diseases.

B) am just sick and tired of people saying that Muslim women are oppressed !!!!!!!
they just say what they hear without knowing the actual facts , when a woman wears a viel volanteerly does that mean she is opressed ??!! when a woman is supposed to keep her viginity ( such as men are supposed to in Islam) until she is bound by marriage to stop the society from falling apart does that mean she is opressed ??!!!
all I know is that I am definitly not abused ! infact I have the upper hand on my life more than most christian woman out there just like all muslim women I know .

Thank you for your question. It's always good when people can educate others in the way that you just did. A lot of people have opinions about things based on ignorance. The more people are given straightforward information, the less ignorant they will be. I am a Christian and have never thought of Muslims as terrorists. I have thought of terrorists on the other hand, as misguided crazy people who selfishly harm others to further their cause. You get these types of individuals anywhere. I agree - it is not the religion of someone, but rather their political ideals that cause someone to perform a terrorist act. As for the circumcision of females, while this does take place in some cultures, again, many people ignorantly assume that Muslims do this because they don't have their facts straight. Thanks for setting things straight.

However, I must correct young Zifikos on this; because even though it is still an African custom, it originally was a Jewish custom.

Bar mitzvah meant male circumcision, and Bat mitzvah was female!

However, Judaism slowly moved away from that.

Islam followed the traditions of Mohammad's beni al Quraish Jewish roots, but did not have the bat mitzvah.

The practice, in the ancient days, was because many young men suffered UTIs those days. [Urinary Tract Infections] And this procedure was indicated to resolve the issue.

However, proper hygiene would ensure that this did not come to people.

Perhaps a word regarding the status of women under Islam is warranted.

It's really more of a regional thing than religious; but, in most Islamic Communities, women are treated as second class citizens.

I often go to Bangalore, in India, where I have an Outsourced Office, and stop off at the Emirates, Israel and Saudi on the way in and out, to visit a lot of my Arab and Isreali friends and I know for a fact that women are not treated as they are here in USA.

Though I didn't hear of female circumcision in these parts, where it was practiced once upon a time long, long ago; I do know that while women do have their own power over their men, they are not given the legal and religous freedom that ours have.

Sadly, religious zealots and Imams in these places have always suppressed the women there.

I can give you an instance from my own experience and from my Office.

A few years ago, when I began my Office there, in India, I had quite a few Muslim people working for me there. The women, who were extremely pretty, used to dress modern and would always be in a crowd of non-Muslim friends, all jabbering and joking harmoniously. I used to think that these people really had a good thing going for themselves there.

A couple of years ago, all this had changed! The Muslim women came in their burkhas which they removed in the Office. They came and left in huddles of sad looking black clad sheep!

When I asked them what had happened, their Hindu and Christian friends and they said that some Imam there had preached against the practice of not wearing the Burkha and mixing with non-Muslims as being sinful and the gangs of young zealots had started attacking Muslim women who didn't wear the burkha and had thrown acid on their faces and mutilated some women by cutting off their noses!?

Naturally, they were now terrified and complied.

Police had arrested the ruffians, but couldn't move against the Imam because he stayed in the mosque where he had the right of sanctuary!?

Similar instances have known to have happened in UK where the Pakis have a large community!

While I know there is no Religious sanction for this kind of thing, the Imams and their madness is scary! That's why I oppose Islam.

while you think that Muslim women being circumcised is stupid , I would love for you to say this in front of one of the most famous supermodels in the world - WARIS DIRI from Somalia ! and do you know why ? - because this poor woman's story is out there for every one to see, with a story that will make your blood curdle! she had to have so much reconstructive surgery that she didn't have to be in pain and pee out of a bag! SO PRINCESS - HOW STUPID IS THIS EXACTLY? - WHO WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET THE FACTS STRAIGHT? - you are right , it is just another political issue , Sharia law wants women to be circumcised , in most events they take a razor blade and dig deep into the tissues surrounding the clitoris and cut it out! some even die from infection! the reasoning behind it is that women should not feel any pleasure during intercourse! not so stupid any longer , is it ? there are so many women who fled to the west and had to be surgically treated just so they will not be in pain ! I think that you need to educate yourself a bit more before you make these poor Muslim women a bunch of liars! you said you are not circumcised , god bless you , for sparing you the agony!

Your questions isn't really a question, more of an editorial rant?

It isn't particularly muslims who practice female circumcision. It's a predominantly African practice which was kept up after most of them converted to Islam. Some of course never converted but the tradition overcomes any logic to the contrary. Educating people is the only thing proven to lead to changed attitudes about this practice.

It's a tribal practise in select Muslim tribes. A lot of African ones and a few others.

To the best of my knowledge NO other religion does this, tribal or otherwise.

It is not, however a universal Islamic law nor do I feel it's found as a directive in the Quran.

Take into account that the Quran authorizes a Muslim man to beat his wife if she doesn't obey him:
Sura 4:34: “Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in their sleeping places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.”

This is a religious issue. The matter of female circumcision is not distant from this mentality.

In general the reason some cultures circumcise women is to remove their capacity for sexual pleasure. This makes them easier to repress and control. It's all about power plays.

The men (who are in charge in these societies) don't care about the women's pleasure but only their own. They see it as a perfectly fine way to control women desires and make them more obedient.

I can't help to think that none of you have been to Saudi Arabia before... muslim woman ARE oppressed. Just come and experience it for yourself... I have a very dear Saudi friend and he is a muslim and all of his 9 sisters are circumcised, and they find absolutely nothing wrong with it, and they will tell you straight up that it is to stop any pleasure during sex... So there you go angry Muslim girls...It is a fact that Muslims circumcise women... Maybe you should just come and visit your so called "holy country" and come be oppressed...

Thank you for pointing that out to them. Female Genital Mutilation is nothing more then a cultural practice and it is trying to be stopped by many muslims around the world.
