cuz its just... fun...
you sorta almost dare yourself to do it...
even if you're by yourself you tend to give yourself a little giggle after...

Good question, but then for supposedly intelligent beings, humans are very good at doing stupid things.
I have never licked a battery and don't think I'll be upset if that experience passes me by in life.
If I ever want to check whether there is any charge left in a battery, I'll put it into something that requires a battery to work. If it works, then the question is answered for me and I'll have escaped pain and potential death. Sounds a good deal to me.

If someone thinks that licking a 9v hurts, just wait until they eventually experience real pain. It's a good indication that the battery still has power and all you get is a tingle.

If you feel a little tickle when you lick it (the negative and positive connections across your tongue) the battery still has some voltage. I don't think I'd recommend doing this though. buy a battery tester instead :-)

Some may get pleasure from being stimulated by it. Just as some like the invigoration of a cold shower or jumping into a frigid lake.

that's no longer stupid in any respect. actually no damage can come to you, save a marginally stinging tongue. that's no longer very relaxing, in spite of the undeniable fact that that's an superb thanks to work out how charged the battery is.the most a very charged 9V can positioned out is round four hundred milliamp-hours, that's .4 Amps. This, back, can do you no damage, and may easily be style of a exciting thanks to trick your human beings.

It doesn't hurt that bad. And it saves the time from having to take apart your device, just to find that the battery is dead anyway.
