while at the same time those same religious people are trying to deny others their basic civil rights because they assume that homosexuality is a choice?

Religion is a choice. Should we stop civil rights protections which are based on religion?

I wonder if you're beginning to feel that asking an intelligent question here is most often an execise in futility. I am. Any informed person, (most don't WANT to be, because it destroys their illogical premise), would know by now that homosexuality is NOT a choice. Okay. What I really find appalling, is how fundamentalist Christians have so much power over politics. Just think about it. & how Bush said he was "called by god" to be president. & yet, is there a stronger advocate of the death penalty? As for Jan, here we go again. "...when Christ returns with his big rod of iron." For awhile, non-Christians were condemned to hell (with footnotes, "but we love you anyway") & then THE WALL OF PAIN, & now it's the BIG ROD OF IRON. (What happened to the "loving god"? Rhetorical question.) I'm not even going to bother with some of the other (rather copious) answers. A mind convinced against it's will is of the same opinion still. One can't even ask, or answer a LOGICAL question in Philosophy without diatribes about religion. Just sitting here blowing in the wind....as ususal. But ONCE in awhile, there's something that makes it worthwhile, I guess. So here's a star for you.

Every single individual has civil rights the same as the next person: nobody is going to ask you if you are a homosexual when you interview for a job. You can get the same job, housing, benefits, everything that I do.
What you want, are more rights than everyone else. You are not allowed to get married to someone of the same sex;
neither am I.
Where religion is not permitted to be discussed in the schools, homosexuality is, and that translates into the pure fact that
it is not permitted that I "push a religious agenda" in school, but its perfectly fine for you to push your homosexual agenda in the schools. Sounds like you have more rights that I do.
Oh, you think this isn't so? I quess you haven't listened to the News this week?
Kids were forced to sit in on an sexually explicit series of classes that explains how to go about homosexual sex. The kids were forced to sign a statement saying they would not tell their parents or any other adults about the classes. They were told it was to be "our secret".
Check out CNN if ya don't believe it.
Oh, and lets not forget the 9th district circuit court who met in California this past week, and made it LAW that if you say any of the following phrases in the workplace, you will lose your job, pension, life ins., and any other benefits you would have gotten:
1. "family values"
2. "natural family"
3. "marriage" - but only if the context of the discussion is concerning male/female relationships.
Hello, folks, this is an amendment made to your right to free speech. Hello???
I don't wanna hear any of your nonsense
about religions getting special rights.
Your homo agenda has made itself crystal
clear to anyone who isn't an idiot with an iq
of 4.
You are turning this world into a disgusting
filthy trash can. But not for long, because you are gonna get the awakening of your dumb life when Christ returns with his big rod of iron. You'll either shape up, or ship out, because in the eternity, none of your filthy nonsense will be tolerated. Your mother must be very proud. Not.

I assume you are referring to Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as well as the 14th Amendment, which provides protection against discrimination based on religious beliefs.

These protections extend to both religious and non religious citizens alike. For example, an Atheist is protected from discrimination if he chooses not to pray during company department meetings. (This is an actual example, involving a company located in Georgia's bible belt, which opens all department meetings with a prayer.)

So these basic civil rights are granted to everyone, not just your 'religious people'. Discrimination based on sexual orientation is equally protected under these same provisions.

Although your argument is clever, it misses the mark in one aspect. It isn't a matter of selectively granting rights under these civil rights protections. The issue is granting new rights. Neither the Civil Rights Act, nor the 14 Amendment provide for homosexual marriage rights. A new law would be needed to provide these rights, and so far only at a state level.

For the main section homosexuality is a few thing you're born with and then start to realize later in life whilst your hormone tiers start to upward thrust. All inspite of the indisputable fact that for the time of human beings being gay could be a decision, using fact there is not any longer something it somewhat is struggling with somebody from picking to be gay in the event that they want. only understand that maximum homosexuals have been born that way. Even different animals are gay, scientist have considered it in lions, birds, monkey, and different sorts of animals. additionally, whether homosexuality grow to be a decision that does no longer recommend that they could then opt to be heterosexual if human beings disapproved of their homosexuality. it fairly is in contrast to atheist will grow to be theist only using fact some theist disapprove of their concept. So all those people who're bashing on the gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgendered would desire to pass away those human beings on my own definitely everyone has the only right suited to be in spite of they choose, i do no longer care if a guy desires to f**ok a cat. i actually do no longer do in spite of you pick as long as your no longer doing it on my front step or bodily harming recommend than that's not substantial.

Hey good point. I never thought of that, but the thing you have to realize is that many people did not have a choice when it came to religion. Most people accept what their parents tell them, its not that they want to but they are never given the opportunity to explore and choose on their own. My parents are Christians and they made me believe that following any other religion was a one way ticket to hell. Thankfully I snapped out of it.
