I have an orange tabby male (see avatar) and 2 females and 1 more smoke male. My mom has a calico female. I don't think color has to do with personality. It's just an individual cat thing. The best way to find a friendly cat is to spend time with each cat to figure it's personality. My orange male is very friendly as is my mom's calico and my female Maine ****.

I don't know much about calicos, but my neighbor has an orange tabby male who just loves and is loved by everyone. I don't think it really matters what kind of color or gender a cat is though. If you love a cat and treat it well, it'll love you.

i have a tortie, have had lots of calicos and torties over the years. i also have a male orange tabby, and know 1 male and 1 female orange tabby quite personally.
both colors are quite loving, but i find my orange males are a lot more into me. my torties and calicos are loving but rather indepentant.
of course all the mentioned cats have healthy secure homes.

Calicos, Torti's, and Siamese all tend to be a little more high strung in general. Tabby colered cats and Black cats are usually more easy going. In general though, males can be a little more laid back than females.

i have heard people say male oranges are nice and female calicos are bratty. Well i have seen nice calicos and nasty orange males. Hard to determine personality on coat color alone.

My partners parents have a large male ginger cat. He is ok i guess. Much friendlier than thier other three cats which are block, grey tabby & Block and white. But my little female torti kitten is just the sweetest thing ever. I know im bias, but she shows more affection and is more active wen its playtime. She really has personality, whereas the ginger cat (whose name is ginger) is lazy, fat and can be very unsociable and grumpy at time. But he has a sweet nature, always wants to be around humans. So i guess its your personal choice.

A cat's disposition depends on where it was born and how it is treated. I've seen both kinds for each.
