Don't push him, he is using this as a power game. He knows that is what you want so he is rebelling to get attention. My advise is to talk to him like he is a baby and treat him like one (since that is probably why he is doing this) and don't even mention or look at the potty chair... he will most likely get tired of you talking to him in a baby voice and calling him "my little baby" and will want to prove to you that he is a big boy. When he wants to do something "big boy" just say "you can't do that, your mommy's little baby boy"... give it a try, I think you just have a clever little one on your hands, so be more clever! good luck

Well my son is 3 1/2 and just potty trained about 2 months ago.. I made a "Potty chart" for him... on a piece of that craft board i spelled out TOY and cut the letters up into 8 different sections each.. Every time he would use the potty i would put a stamp in one of the sections and at the end he got to pick out a toy. For the first couple weeks, i had to let him go bottomless around the house (he confused underwear w/ diapers) so he had no choice but to go on the potty.. Then after he started to use it i started putting "Big boy pants" on him during the daytime. He started wearing them full-time and had no accidents after the third day and has been trained ever since!

He's 3, it's time to take the diapers away. I didn't use a potty chair with any of my kids (a boy and a girl, now 4 & 6). My son started at 2 1/2, my daughter at 2. I took them into the bathroom, told them that this is the potty and this is what they do. Then I told them that there were no more diapers to wear. Be prepared for accidents, but don't go back to diapers. Good luck; my daughter took to it immediately when she started, my son took a little while longer.

Just take the diapers off him so that every time he pees, you go straight to the chair. Also, he should help clean up any messes he makes. Keep up with the treats for potty. If he goes on the potty like a big boy, then he should get a Jelley Bean or something.
But seriously, take the diapers off and go bare bum.
It was the only thing that finally worked for my 3 & 1/2 yo who REFUSED to go potty.

We put food coloring in the potty chair and explained that when he peed in the potty, it changed colors. They use to make tablets for the potty that did this, not sure if they still do or not. My son would get excited about changing the color of the water and want to see what it would be. He never had a problem sitting on the potty after that. I'm a mom to 3.

When I was potty training my oldest son(at 3) the potty chair didn't work well either. My husband built a small step stool WITH him and then I helped him paint & put stickers on it. He could only use his stool if he was going to use or sit on the toilet. I started making him change and "clean" his own poopy pull-ups, too. I reasoned with him, that if he let all the poop go down the toliet he wouldn't have so much to clean.
I also let all three of my kids sit backwards(facing the tank) because then they could see what was going on, plus they don't feel like their going to fall in. Don't worry! How many 10 year olds do you know that aren't potty trained? He'll get it! No need to stess. It'll only make it harder on both of you

My son is three also and is not potty trained, rest assured he will not be ten and still not potty trained. He will go in his own time. I am sorry he will nto be able to go to preschool. I hope it works out before then. Try putting cherrios or something colorful in the toilet or potty. land try and get him to use it as a target. some people have suggested it. I dont know if it works. I like you have a son who cries when I have him sit on the pot. Good luck.

It sounds like either he truely is not ready, or is playing a control game (unfortunantly it is one that grownups cannot win). If you have any children in the family, or close friends with children who are willing to help, let him go in with them while they use the bathroom (have his potty chair in there with him), but don't push it, or explain in any way. He may want to start being like the "big kids". For the time being, you may just want to lay off for a while to end the power struggle, but keep the potty around at all times.
With both my kids, I just started putting them in underwear, and let them choose their favorite clothes to wear. They hated the feeling of wetting themselves, plus they had to then change into something of my choice. Admittedly, this is alot of work on the parent, and VERY frustrating when you have to clean up a bunch of times throughout the day. However, it does not last long. It took both my kids about 1 week. My daughter, even though potty trained now for 3 months (no accidents), will wet a pull-up immediately if I put it on her. She sees it as the ultimate excuse to pee.
Good luck!

Although most children start potty training between the ages of 18 months and 3 years, many spend many months without success and wonder why. Some hints that your child may be ready to start potty training include becoming upset when they soil their diapers, they can stay dry for 2 or more hours, they enjoy to imitating parents or other children using the toilet or they may even tell you or ask to use the toilet.

If he won't sit on the potty chair then why not try and have him sit on the regular toilet or just have him stand up from the start. If you and his father take him each time that the both of you uses the bathroom he might catch on and want to use the potty.
