My grandfather is currently in the hospital because yesterday he lost the use of his legs, he fell, but falling isn't uncommon for him. When he was addmitted to the hospital his fever was 104 degrees F then an hour later went up to 106, down again to 99 then back to 101. They have ruled out stroke but have yet to come up with ANYTHING... other then a theory of a blood clot.... and are treating him for that, but they don't even know for sure if that is the problem it is only a guess! Now they are talking phsycal therapy, yet have no clue WHY this has happened?
Those are really his only symptoms... fever and loss of leg usage. Any ideas what could be going on?

Thank you both, he is still in the hospital this evening and has gotten worse... he is now coughing and pretty much can't move much at all. They still have no idea what is wrong.

Sometimes it can be very difficult to figure out what is going on in elderly people. (I assume he is elderly because he has had prior falls.) Leg weakness can be a problem with the muscles, the spinal cord, the brain, the circulation, or it can just be a general symptom of some other illness. For example, whenever my elderly father has a urinary tract infection, he gets leg weakness. If your grandfather has a fever, maybe there is an infection going on somewhere and hopefully his doctors will be able to find it and treat it. I hope he feels better soon.

I think I would get another consult and then maybe think about moving him to a different facility! They're not sure but they'll treat him for it anyway??? Somehow that seems to fall on the concept of incompetence in my opinion!
