The first year I administered this test to my son, I ordered the practice test from BJU (Bob Jones University) Testing. After that, my son knew what to expect from the test, so I haven't ordered it since and I don't know if they still have it. Just about any "state test prep" materials will do. The idea is to get them used to completing the work in a timed situation where they answer on a separate sheet (filling in the bubbles).

You could download an old state test as a prep for him/her. Check out Texas' old tests here:

Best wishes for a successful test!

is there a practice test for the iowa basic skills test for homeschoolers?

I was home schooled from 4th grade on and took the Iowa Basic Skills Test every year and I have never heard of a practice test. I don't think it is important enough to have to worry about a practice test since the scores are just for state school system statistics.

From http://www.education.uiowa.edu/itp/itbs/itbs_use_prep.htm

Commercially Developed Test Preparation Materials
There are various test preparation materials on the market that claim to ready students for standardized achievement testing. Thus far, however, there is no consistent research evidence to support the use of such materials. Most of these materials are designed to raise test scores without increasing student achievement in the long term. Such preparation actually serves to misrepresent what students know rather than to demonstrate real, substantial growth over the previous year. The authors and publisher of the Iowa tests do not endorse the use of such materials.

I used this practice test for my 3rd grader las year. It was on this site :

They don't have any other grade levels though.
Good Luck!

Ditto the poster before me - the first year I had my kids take the Iowa tests through the hs group, I ordered the practice tests from BJUP. I don't think it really did anything for them, but it certainly gave ME peace of mind!

I had a home school parent tell me she used "Test Ready". She said it was very good. Maybe you use that. Search - test ready - and go down the page. You will find something there....one with OMNI that sounds familiar.
