Do you think you can help me figure out what caused this?

That can definitely happen after getting your teeth cleaned. The hygienist probably went a little overboard with the cleaning but this same thing has happened to me. It will fade over the next couple of days and go away.

Did the novacaine or whatever wear off?
Maybe you should call the dentist office. They can advise you according to your circumstance.

What did you have done while at the dentist? Call your dentist and let him know.

No! Im not a dentist! You should call your dentist and ask him/her! It could be a reaction to somthing they gave you.

well first you would need to tell us what the dentist did, like what procedure... a filling or a root canal? yeah, those would hurt.

them dental tools, they can be hell,
u need to get some sensitive toothpaste and gargle with
warm salt water.
rinse mouth with olive oil also.
