My husband got a few driving tickets about two years ago, and never went to the court date for them. Now he's got to pay over 2000 dollars.... Is there any way he can take this back into court and try to get the amount reduced, or any other options?

The tickets were for no drivers license type things....

They will not arrest him for anything less than $15,000 in warrants so that's why they didn't arrest him when he was pulled over.

He needs to turn himself in and spend the night in jail. My husband did this years ago when he was in college because he just didn't have the money to pay. So he turned himself in and they make him spend a few hours in the cell to pay it off.

Now they don't place him in county jail (Twin Towers or Men's Central) but they will put him in lockup maybe at the station or in the worst case in the holding cell at IRC downtown L.A. Nobody wants to be locked up but it will save $2,000 and give him some time to think before he drives without a license again.

BTW spending time in lockup will not appear on his criminal record as a felony or a jail sentence so don't worry.

If he never went to court at all then he does have a right to plead his case or have his day in court. That does not mean he will not get out of the new fines imposed for not appearing the first time as he promised he would - that was when he signed the tickets. But if they were for no license and he still has no license, he won't win. The fines certainly will not be reduced because he disregarded the court already once.

All he can do is call the courthouse and get a hearing. The judge is gonna want to know why he waited so long to take care of the tickets. No telling what it's gonna cost though. It depends on the judge.

He could keep ignoring them. It only gets worse, never better. IF he was supposed to go in front of the judge and didn't he now has warrants for "Failure to Appear" issued for him. If he ever gets pulled over for anything his name will pop up and he will be arrested.

Total bummer dude. If he doesn't take care if this, you know that this can be taken into collection agencies right?

Good luck, hope your credit is not combined with his.

He should get a lawyer to help him. At this point if they catch him he WILL serve time, and may never get a license in another state.

He needs a lawyer, and he needs a d**n good reason. He might get them reduced, but how much will you save if you have to hire a lawyer?
