I am trying to figure out if I can transfer an incoming call on line (A) to line (B) on a 2-line phone. I also want to know if I can plug an answering machine into line (B).

there is no residential phone where you can transfer from line 1 to line 2, infact in business systems you are not transfering the dialtone that the customer is on when you transfer to a diffrent extention... you can confrence line 1 and line 2 with most 2 line phones.. you can set up call foward on busy (or call hunting) so that an incomming call on line 1 will go to line 2 if the line is busy... you can connect an answering machine to line 2, but it will either have to be a 2 line answering machine, or a seprate jack, as if you connect a single line phone into the jack you are only going to get the dial tone for line 1..

I don't know if you're talking about an extension or a separate number.
If this is an extension, it is not possible.
I you have two 7-digit numbers assigned to your residence it is possible.
First of all, the answering-machine can be used on either phone regardless of your service.
Secondly, in the case of two 7-digit assigned numbers, you can used the code to activate a 3-way conference.
(See the front of your phone book for the codes.)
This would be the incoming calling party, you on one line, and another person on the second line.
Hope all your problems are small. Good luck.

Might be worth giving the model of phone out, so someone can help, as each phone is likely to have different options...
