I would like advice on how to exercise my dog (besides short walks, which I already know we will be taking). I understand that my pup will be lethargic right after the neutering and the day after but I'm worried about the other 9 days that he can hurt himself. He is totally hyper and spends half his time standing on his hind legs. I am worried that a couple of days after the surgery he will go back to his normal jumpy and rambunctious self and hurt himself. Of course, he will be wearing the lampshade while unsupervised. How can I keep him busy, entertained, (what games can he/ we play?) so he won't want to jump around or stand on his hind legs??

My best advice is to honestly keep your dog mostly confined during that week or so following the surgery. Take him on walks, but other than that it is best to keep them mostly crated or confined to a small part of the room during this time. Make sure to keep bedding and also lots of bones/chew toys to encourage him to stay still and simply chew.

After about 4 days or so following the surgery they'll be mostly healed and able to interact more normally without so much risk to reopening the wound. This was my experience with both of my very active labs when they were fixed as puppies.

Most dogs are not hyper after getting nuetered. Chances are he wont hurt himself. He might one time and learn that it hurts and he will stop. All the animals I have seen after they are nuetered are much more relaxed and dont return to that hyper state again. If he is too much after the surgery ask your vet if you can give him Benadryll when he is hyper so he will relax and maybe sleep. That will give the stiches more time to heal.

Honestly- and it is kinda trial and error but I doubt the pup will be hyper after nuetering. One of the reasons aparment landlords ask for them to be nuetered *besides the threat of more puppies* is that they are calmer and quieter than otherwise

I just had my Boxer pup neutered a couple of weeks ago. The crate was our friend. I kept him leashed for playtime and busy with lots of frozen stuffed Kong toys.

I would keep her in a kennel, I know that sounds really mean but she needs to stay quiet or she is going to rip out the stitches. I would take her out for feedings and to go outside and a little play time but put a chewy treat in the kennel with her and she will be fine
