If someone told you that you needed to be some where at 9 what are you going to ask? AM or PM? Now if someone told you that you needed to be at that same place at 2100 you would know that it meant you needed to be there at 9 pm. It is easier to understand so there are less questions and NO room for misinterpretation.

I think the US and Canada are the only countries that use the 12 hour clock. Europe uses a 24 hour clock. When the US joined NATO after WW-II it was decided to try to standardize as many things as possible between the various forces. The adoption of the 24 hr clock for the US military was on of the things standardized

Well, some people get their work schedules in military time. Thus, in order to fall in line and not be late for work they will set thier clocks to military time. Then again, some folks are just use to it from being in the military. However they may just want their clocks set that way...

Its actually not military time its refered to as the 24 hour clock. It is used to easier differentiate between AM and PM. Basically to dial down confusion on the radio. It is also used in medicine, police forces, and fire fighting agencies around the country.

It eliminates any confusion about when to be somewhere.
Once you get used to it, I actually think its a lot easier. I have somewhere to be at 1300 today, so I can easily tell how long I have until I need to leave. Its easier to subtract the hours from 1300 than 1:00 pm.

Military time as you call it is known as Zulu time in the military and is used so a person will know automatically if its am or pm.

So there is no confusion about time. A soldier is on call 24 hours a day. If he is told to be somewhere at 630 he needs to know that is is 0630 and not 1830.

That way there is no mistake as to what time is meant. Someone can mix up am and pm. It's easier to know that 0400 is am and 1600 is pm
