I am the opposite. When I get depressed or sad I head for the gym and when I leave I feel totally refreshed. I can feel when depression or the sad feeling is about to hit. I grab my bag and head for the gym right away. If you sit and mope around you will never get there.
Try to get a friend to help you exercise. Someone you can call and say lets go for a walk and they will take a walk with you and talk. Talking is a good way to relieve stress which can lead to depression.
Nice name, my 5 year old daughter's name is Courtney.

Because motivation and depression don't get along too well. Think about the big picture and remember that a great workout has the same effect on your brain as a dose of stimulant (i.e. Ritalin!!!), so finishing a great workout will not only be good for your mind and body, but it will help wash away that depression as well.

i don't have the scientific reasons for it but i know what you mean; you mope around and procrastinate... you find other things to do and dread the workout... i find if you find an exercise that you love to do and not think about it as 'work', then even when you are depressed you start looking forward to that exercies... actually for me, if i'm not in the best of moods, i get the high out of playing basketball... something about dominating the game, getting banged up and making plays that makes my worries disappear.

Exercising actually helps with depression. It's difficult because when you are depressed, it affects how much energy you have. It's all in your mind.

because you never feel like doing anything and it is harder to find the motivation for something good for you when you are depressed...

depression makes you hurt physically and makes you just feel like general crap, if you do exercise a little it may help because you will release endorphins that will help you feel better
