...every time people answer, and take an unbiassed stance, why get hammered with thumbs down, obviously from both sides of the arguement/question?
Do people fear others seeing it another way, or is it the "I'm right, your wrong" complex?
Or do these people just need to take their heads out of their pooh holes and open their minds?

(This question is placed in "Religion and Spirituality" because this is the place I see it.)

I get both thumbs up and thumbs down, which is natural, as we are talking about fundamental understandings of reality that cannot all be correct, no matter how much we would like to think so, and people often have very strong beliefs.

It is important, but difficult, to have a respectful discussion. The "Jerry Springer" culture in America does not enhance the chances of meaningful dialogue, but is important to try at least...

I enjoy a good conversation with someone with a different point of view. I think it can be very rewarding, and if you do so from the perspective of "I am willing to talk about the basic core beliefs in an open fashion", and not view it as an argument to win, or you must have agreement at the end of the conversation, they can go quite well.

I have been having theological/philsophical dialogues for some people for years.

i think alot of people thumbs down just to show they disagree. i guess in those instances maybe those people disagree with anything that challenges them to see both sides of an issue, or maybe the find fault with part of that poster's arguement because of their point of view. could be that something else is wrong with the answer all together - i got lots of thumbs down once because i accidentaly posted misinformation (i got two authors backwards) and once because i posted a wrong link. i will thumbs up any answer that i believe is coming from a poster who is truly trying to be helpful and stays on topic, i think a variety of points of view is what makes this site interesting.

Just brush it off.
These people are not making the world a better place, and all you can do is either hope or pray for them to be better people.
That's the kind of energy we need, from ALL sides of the fence.

Well...... I dunno. I don't even know if I get thumbs downs. In fact unless I get best answer I don't look at questions I've already answered I only look at the answers that came before mine and then my time with that question is over. Please don't give me thumbs down's folks but even if you do it wont bug me cuz I'll never see it again.

People have very strong religious beliefs, theists, agnostics and atheists alike.

An unbiased answer doesn't agree with anyone, so they all give it a thumbs-down.
