I'd generally say that the best tattoos are those that have significance to the person... which is why I tend to feel that for people to have, for instance, Chinese or Japanese characters tattooed on when they themselves aren't Chinese or Japanese seems a bit daft to me. To a certain extent the same applies to German.
I'd also caution you that people do tend, when you have tattoos, to ask you about them, why you got them, what the mean to you; if you have a tattoo in German you'll probably get asked about it quite a bit.
However, there are always reasons to do anything. If you really want to do it there's no reason not to; it's your skin and your tattoo.
Hope this helps!

Tattooing is by no means a modern practice. Tattoo-bearing Egyptian and Libyan mummies have been found that date back hundreds of years before the time of Christ. Tattooed mummies have also been found in South America. Many of the tattooed images were directly related to the worship of pagan gods. According to researcher Steve Gilbert, “the earliest known tattoo that is a picture of something, rather than an abstract pattern, represents the god Bes. In Egyptian mythology Bes is the lascivious god of revelry.” The Mosaic Law forbade God’s people to tattoo themselves. Said Leviticus 19:28: “You must not make cuts in your flesh for a deceased soul, and you must not put tattoo marking upon yourselves. I am Jehovah.” Pagan worshipers, such as the Egyptians, tattooed the names or symbols of their deities on their breast or arms. By complying with Jehovah’s ban on tattoo markings, the Israelites would stand out as different from other nations. While Christians today are not under the Law of Moses, the prohibition it laid on tattooing is sobering. (Ephesians 2:15) If you are a Christian, you would certainly not want to make markings on your body, even temporarily, that smack of paganism or false worship.

No of course not. You may not be directly german but who knows dig into your family history and you might find someone is. and theres nothing wrong with pursuing an interest. I am German and I see the German culture as a very interesting one and one differing very much from that of the culture that we are exposed to in the United States.

nothing wrong. tattoo is a form of body art.
art is a form of expression. free for all. get whatever you want on it as long as it is not so offending for others around you such that it causes them alot of uncomfort.

No, it's not wrong. Just make sure you know exactly what it means before you go to get it done.
