That's a very interesting question. I think it is true that we take what we feel we can possibly believe in and throw away what we feel is just too ridiculous. For example, some of the parts of the Bible, I just find to be totally ridiculous....like the part where the man gives over his virgin daughters to a mob of men in order to save men of God. What? I say that's crazy. And I don't like animal sacrifice either...I think what good are a bunch of burned animals to God? A lot of the Bible just doesn't make sense. So I take the parts that I think make sense....love thy neighbor, treat each other with respect and love....and throw away the parts that just don't make sense. As far as the science end, I think evolution really makes the most sense and that the story of creation in the Bible is really kind of a parable and not meant to be taken as fact. But that's just me and my beliefs....which I have found credible. :) :)

Religious organizations focus almost solely on the question of where do we go when we die. Its the same type of con as if I we're going around selling a magic rock that will keep you from being eaten by a giant tiger. Individual people choose what religion they believe in simply by what is available to them. The same person who happens to be christian would in fact be Muslim if the geographic and language situation we're different. All religions/myths are similar in a sense that the teachings have a list of guidelines, commandments, policies, etc. on how to live, and a cute bedtime story on what happens when you die. So religious beliefs are based solely on geography, regional customs and languages.

Funny how elderly, near-death, and weak minded people fill pews in churches week after week across the nation; same key demographic as someone looking to steal or cheat someone out of money...

Neither, usually... It's how they've been brainwashed (usually from birth), tempered with a little experience and often accompanied by still more indoctrination. And if they bypass things like ToE - add in inadequate reading of the facts.

(BTW, I'm not throwing stones here... I feel I'm an atheist because of indoctrination - but thank god I am!)

I go with what makes sense to me. Obviously scientific proof that I can see and touch, which is available, makes a few conclusions more than logical.
