We had one fly down a vent in our roof once. We had to remove a wall panel and take apart the vent to get it out. The Bird was just walking around in the dark vent trying to figure out how to get out. It had no way of flying straight up. I suspect that unless you can reach down (or up) with something to grab it and pull it out you will need to take something apart to get it.

Pray. Pray that it finds it's way UP the chimney. There's really nothing you can do and the firemen have more important things to do than fetch wild birds from chimneys.

If you were really close to it....you may have a memorial service for it. It sounds like you are talking about a wild bird, so I doubt you will call any rescue people for it. It will have to get out on it's own.

Don't light any fires! Get the firemen they'll probably get it out somehow just like getting a cat from a tree!
