The mussels themselves are okay, but it's the sauce that can be a problem.
What kind of sauce?

The mussles themselves aren't fattening. However, those sauces are what will kill you. Usually they're cooked in a butter and garlic or rich cream sauce. Tastes pretty good but yes, count on fat!

Most real seafood (not imitation crab) is actually good for you. They contain the moega fats that your body needs. The common misperception is that fats make you fat. It is actually carbs that are turned into fat the quickets if the calories from the carbs are not burned off. Make sure to cook the fish/seafood with an olive oil/olive oil based sauce and use fresh veggies to compliment. My fav is to grill salmon with some olive oil and lemon, and serve fire roasted red peppers and onions on the side. Enjoy!

No they are not . . . . . and the sauce does not have to be either. Don't use creme, just cook them in a small amount of white wine and stock (*** some parsely).
I have also done them in Red wine and that is good too. You can source all these recipes on the net.
Enjoy . . . . but don't eat too much crusty bread;_0

I dont think they are too bad for you. though I guess it would depend on the type of sauce they were in.
