Does that make the Bible easier to understand?

No. Sho-nuff, my Bible has plenty of question marks....some erased, some still appearing. Although I have crossed out stuff in the KJV & changed the word to make it truer to the Hebrew.

Why do you ask?

I think looking at the verse in a different versions makes it easier to understand. You may not understand the verse completely the way it is written in one of the bible versions, and you might be able to understand it in a different version.
As for your question about underlining the verse, no it doesnt really make a difference.

edit: Exactly - do you think the cover was originally full of ununderstood pararaphs, that have been eventually all highlighted by this method?

No...I keep note paper handy. I was not even aware there were black highlighters. What exactly would you use them for? MY BOX

no I generaly highlight passages I like in bright colours.

lol..funny..I'm a christian and when I dont understand a verse I go to my pastor and pray for Gods wisdom and knowledge.

no... I have different colored highlighters that i use.... and highlight what God is promising or enlightening me on....
