This info is a bit hard to find, but according to the link below, the first airplane flew at an average speed of thirty one miles per hour, in a period of 57 seconds. The link below provides the telegraph that the Wright brothers wrote to inform their father of the successful flight. In this telegraph, they mentioned the average speed at which their machine traveled through the air. Please see the first link.

I think the average speed was 2 mph, but the highest it reached was 5mph. I am not sure though...
