mac,

Holster carry is a 'generally accepted' practice in KY.

I think that means that it's okay to have it holstered out in the open, in sparsely populated wooded areas, on farmland, and the like, without a permit as long as you're at least 21. If you walk into your local wallyworld or mall with a piece holstered on your gun belt, you will attract enough attention for local law enforcement to check you out.

If you live in a good size town or city...consider getting a CCW permit. That state (KY) issues CCW (Concealed Carry Weapons) permits to those at least 21 yrs of age who qualifies.

A friend and I had this conversation about a month ago. It depends on the state and local laws. In ohio there is a lawsuit that was overturned twice regarding this same matter. my opinion is that it is not a concealed weapon if worn on your hip in a holdster therefore not concealed and requires no permit. however local laws can state that you are not allowed to carry a firearm in town limits.

although the actual carry licesne is called a concelled carry, it has been general practice to allow it as a open carry. This is untill it causes a distrubance, and at that point disturbing the peace could be an issue. Concelled is still the safest form of carry.
