what happened to conversation? what happened to putting integrity into places where it was missing, what happened totaking a stand for one's self, what happened to contemplating what is missing, what happened to delivering communications that are burning a hole in people chests, what happened to doing good things for ourselves, and what happened to accepting Grace when it comes.
How did we come to so esily hand over our well being to artifically manufactured chemicals, the Pharmaceutical companies and quack pot doctors?

and btw - i take a long piss on so called "postive thinking" from a very very tall building and do not suggest a person put sugar on top of any difficulties or emotional concerns!! hellz no! Positive thinking is as bankrupt as drugs i think anyway!

My brother takes Prozac, I think because of his hyperactivity, although it doesn't seem to help. My family doesn't appear to be concerned about these things you're mentioning. But you're absolutely right — we're placing too much dependence on the bottles. People who run for drugs whenever they're experiencing negative emotions need to grow up and learn to take care of themselves.

In all fairness, there are some people who have chemical imbalances in their brains and actually need the meds to simply correct the imbalance, much the way someone would take a drug for a faulty liver or heart.
That said, WAY too many people do turn to these alternatives. I also find that people turn to psychiatry too often as well. Sometimes it is necessary to have a "skilled listener" (like for soldiers returning from war, or rape victims, etc.), but most people's problems can be just as well remedied by the compassion, support, and advice of a friend.
One problem with that is that some people have a tendency to dwell on their problems way too much, so that all their friends, despite their good intentions, just get TIRED of hearing about the same drama over and over again, so people turn to professionals instead. These people need to learn to strike a balance between (1) paying enough attention to their problems to solve them and (2) dwelling on them constantly without doing anything to solve them, thereby making them worse instead of better.

We've been brainwashed by pharmaceutical companies and doctors who write prescriptions for every little ailment. The problem is profit. If they get you hooked on a $10 per day pill, they make billions. Some people need the stuff, but most don't. We need to try all other ways to handle our problems first: exercise, conversation, therapy, holistic remedies, eating right. You are so right, except for the Grace thing.

"How did we come to so esily hand over our well being to artifically manufactured chemicals, the Pharmaceutical companies and quack pot doctors?" Maybe you need to learn to speak for yourself rather than generalize. Generalizations tend to make one look less intelligent than they may or may not be. As for myself I don't take any meds such as prozac, I do take the occasional Excedrin for a head ache but I find taking a nap does just as well. If YOU take drugs to get over life's little bumps that is YOU...don't superimpose your lack of ability onto others though.

Don't know, but since my by-passes, sugar, and age related
stuff, the question is where did these folks come from that
researched the medication that helps keep my blood flowing,
my heart ticking, my sugar under control, etc. I'm aghast at
how fast my health went to pot starting about 5 - years ago.
By the Grace of God that guided the physicians hands I'm
still alive-- I readily accept that.

95% of those drugs are junk- and only s/b used in very very rare cases - yet they are being pushed like candy and rarely help these people longer term and often turn them into Zoloff Zombies
Daily light jogging, walking, or swimming -has had far better result with no bad side effects and many positive benefits (see Duke University studies)
As one Harvard Medical School MD has stated: "depression as generally described in the media is primarily a "disease" of exercise deficiency"
Humans were required to move for 5 million years JUST TO SURVIVE DAILY and sendentary lifestyle are interpreted by our DNA as meaning we are living worthless existences - thus inducing depression
These drugs and the way they are being pushed are a huge scandal

I totally DISAGREE with you. I am not addicted to my medication. I have lived 21 years without it. There comes a time in some peoples lives that they need a little help. I mean, it's wonderful to talk to a counselor, but I know how it feels to have a chemical imbalance. I have only been taking Effexor for 2 months. I am planning to come off of it soon. There was just this point in my life where I needed help. What's wrong with that?

Clearly you know nothing about depression
Many times it can be cured by taking the measures you are saying but often it cannot
Years of research have proven that depression is caused by an imbalance of chemicals.. .same as many other physical diseases. You wouldnt' tell soemone with strep or meningitis.. no i'm not gioing to give you medication because you should be able to handle it on your own... Obviously they would eventually die without medication
same with depression it can lead to death unless proeprly treated..
it isn't a matter of positive thinking....... it is a matter of a hormone that causes depression floatign around in a blood steram and no amount of therapy can fix that

The real issue is that we have become a society that is morally bankrupt .....many many people are too weak or too lazy to deal with issue and good communication is but a distant memory for many...it is sooooo much easier to just take the easy way out and pop a pill for this and another for that......sad sad commentary

Your question is incredibly presumptuous. You have clearly had no personal experience with depression, or you would understand the necessity of using any means necessary to get better. Yes, even pharmaceuticals.
