Why are so many people making jokes about priests and the Catholic Church? Do you think you are funny? Most of the child molestation is happening in protostant faiths, the Episcapal church. Catholics are actually accepting of gays, so fo all you gay people out their making these jokes, (don't throw stones!) And as for you protostants, Catholocism is probably the most sain Christian religion. We have never had anyone walk up to the alter to be 'saved' in soem cult like fashion similiar to Jonestown. My father is baptist and I have seen it and it looks like a fricking cult initiation. The preacher takes the fallower at weak time by riduculing them with sin then has come up to the front and takes advantage of them in that weak state. I'm sorry but that is supposed to be better than talking to a priest behind a screen and confessing sins and getting obsolved? There is no crying or public spectacle. Must you remember the story of the bible where Jesus tells us that when we fast not to look

The catholic church has a lot to explain to God. The crusades showed the injustice the papacy had. Killing women, children and men just because they read the bible. The church was burning bibles! When a church has this look of sainthood and they have thousands of cases of child molestation, then you can see why people are leaving your churches because "there is no justice".
This isn't a coincidence my friend, your church that you are standing up for is deep in molestation charges and cover ups. I would strongly take a second look at your religion, because what's going on all over the world under the rule of the Vatican isn't indicative of the apostolic succession.
I agree that other churches have the same issues and humans aren't perfect, but don't go walking around parading as the "worlds" religion and "god sent" when the church doesn't display 2 qualities of God: Love and Justice.

Speaking as a Protestant who has in recent years developed a profound respect for the Catholic Church, I would say that the real issue for most Protestants (Lutherans and Anglicans excepted) is that they haven't the slightest idea what a sacrament really is or why it matters.
When they hear you talk about Reconciliation, they think that a priest is coming between you and God, probably to put you under additional bondage. They don't understand that the priest is actually acting as an ambassador to give you God's gift *in person*.
Most Protestant churches don't have anything like that--their only option is to beg, plead, and weep, hoping that their act of contrition is true but having no personal representative of God to forgive their sins. Having no concept of what a sacrament is, they think the priest is just another complicating factor in this mess, giving people one more reason to be afraid they'll spend eternity in Hell.
That is why so many Protestants speak so poorly of the Catholic Church.

They are out in the open.
The others you allude to are not.
Petrifies are not something new, it has been going on for a very long time.
It was covered up by the society and the church for a very long time. Even the parents of the children covered it up. Who had the greater sin, the priest or the parents that know about it because the child told them?
The Parents.---Burn baby burn.
They abandoned their charge.
They failed in their mission.
They refused their task.
That they would not be looked at with distaste by the other members of their church. They cared more for their status then their child.

Been Catholic and now am protestant/non-denominational. I've seen both sides as an adult and quite frankly, I don't see the need to bash either side. We worship differently, but don't we believe in the same God? Don't we acknowledge the same Jesus as our Lord and Savior? Don't we look to the same Holy Spirit for holiness and discernment? Why do we point out the differences instead?
You take offense to people criticizing priests, but you turn around and riducule altar calls. You criticize someone being encouraged to give their life to Christ? Stop worrying about being Catholic or criticizing Protestants and focus on being a holy Christian with your focus on the Lord!

Easy targets - espec. self-righteous ones - can be fun.
"So, these three guys walk into a bar: a Catholic priest, a pedophile, and a porn addict, and he's with two other men."
"A priest, a rabbi, and a minister walk into a bar. The bartender says, 'What is this, some kind of joke?'"
But on your atheist note, there's nothing to get over; you've been brainwashed. ... "I don't think we're here for anything, we're just products of evolution. You can say, 'Gee, your life must be pretty bleak if you don't think there's a purpose,' but I'm anticipating a good lunch.' -- James Watson

Luke 12:8 says Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.
Responding to an altar call is not a hysterical action. God tells us to confess before men and an altar call is supposed to do just that. No one says you have to, one can accept Jesus Christ anywhere. To go up front, one is simply moved by the Holy Spirit and touched by what the pastor spoke of that they decide to go ahead. It has never been a spectacle of any kind. It is usually quiet. One, two, or three may go up during our last song. Then we all pray and that's it. Nothing but what we would do anyway. The bible also speaks of singing and dancing unto the Lord, so if a church choses that, it's biblical. It does not tell us to confess our sins to a priest who then will forgive us in the name of God. I do that by praying to God daily. Thank you.

I am a catholic and I agree with you, I also believe that the catholic church has a more moderate Christian faith, but as for homosexuality, most catholics and priests I know do frown on homosexuality, because we believe it to be a mortal sin.

While it is true the abuse of children by priest are reported in the media with zeal it is by no means an epedemic quite the opposite is true. Human beings sin including men in the church but the church herself and its teachings remain sound.
If you are catholic your example of handling your anger and frustration as left much to be desired. We love and respect our brothers and sisters in Christ and we pray that one day they will come home to the fold
