I understand liking a "sweet" after the meal, but is there a trend to make the entire meal sweet??? UGH!

I understand what you mean. I personally don't eat sweets, and trying a pick a restaurant for our anniversary was murder! Everything on the menus sounded great until they threw in something sweet. It must be a trend, and we don't like it.
