I had a bad tattoo done.....Its about 1/12 inches long and about an inch wide and its just black. Its symbol for scorpio. What would be a good design to cover it up? I'm leaning towards a flower with vines etc...

Everyone's comments are great, and I didn't plant on going larger. The crappy tat is on my upper thigh and my thoughts are to have two flowers and veins from upper thigh to my side of stomach. So its gonna be pretty big.

there is no one design that would be better for covering it up. only that since it is black the part to cover the original tattoo will have to be black too. tho it may be able to have some color, depending on the tattoo you already have. check out my profile picture (it's bigger in my 360) it is a coverup of a psychadelic mushroom. (young and dumb) there are tons of possibilities the one thing that most people face is that the coverup has to be quite a bit bigger than the original to make it look good. some people don't want a large tattoo. good luck!!
make sure to get an artist that is good at doing coverups, not all artists are talented at them.

If you'd like a flower and vines, then that seems like the thing to get! I'd suggest finding an artist with a proven track record of doing cover-ups, and going to them for advice on what design will work best. Given that you existing tattoo is very dark, it'll need to be concealed somewhere in a dark area of the new one, and the new design may need to be quite a bit bigger in order for this to look right. But a good artist will be able to give you the best information on what will work well, and come up with a design which does the job of covering the crappy tattoo while incorporating your ideas.

Good luck!

A good tat always starts with a very clear precise conversation with the artist. I have a cover up and it turned out great because of the artist.

Use the black for the background and have the tattoo artist put a medium size white rose in the middle.

Your best bet is to go to a tattoo artist and have him look at it and design something to cover it. They can do wonderful things in tattoo cover up. :)
