If you want the movie/film to be smooth choose a minimum of 20 fps up to 30 fps, if smoothness is not important but you want to keep the file smaller you can go between 7 and 15 fps
There is no real standard for avi, standard video uses 24 fps. for regular TV.

I would think that the larger the player window is while viewing the rate would diminish due to the need to refresh more pixels. The rate should be faster in a smaller window. It would also depend on the device used to recording the avi and its resolution in my opinion. As for a standard, I don't think there currently is one. I may be wrong, but that is the way it seems.

It may also depend on your video adapter's speed.

But, then again, .avi IS a standard.

No such thing, since there is no such thing as a standard .avi type video.
