i got a star wars rebel logo on my upper arm, i really also wanted outer space surrounding it and kinda trailing off and stuff and my artist who has won 5 full sleeve awards and 7 half sleeve awards in the last 10 years in Texas said no way that it would not look like what i wanted and that black doesnt stand up to time and that he would just do the logo.. which is still bad *** ..lol...
My question is this:
I should listen to him right?
Also second question:
any ideas on how to one day extend it out..i was thinking dark blues and stars...

Ok ...you chose your artist for a reason...because he's good at what he does...and this is what he does for a living...his professional life is tattooing. By bearing his artwork, you are also a representation of him and his studio...if he told you that what you want isn't possible, there was a reason that he told you that. My original idea was altered just because what I had wanted wasn't possible...trusted my artist however because he's the tattoo artist...I'm not. I love my tattoo now and I'm glad I went with what he wanted. Did he not go over these details with you re: your tattoo when you discussed it with him initially?
Yes, I would say to listen to him....

I think blue is good for tattoos, Now stars have now since represented posers. And alot of tattoo artists are getting offended at the trendiness of the tattoo-ing, And are refusing business, because basically the work they do on you, is the work that other people will see.
Your tattoo that this artist gives you is his "business card" If he is refusing to do it, it is because he disagrees.
However, get a second opinion, if another artists says no, than i would think they are more than likely doing you a favor, and letting you know that this is probably not a good choice.
Always get there input, they are an "artist" for a reason, They have good ideas and know how to make things work....
In extending tatts one day, all my guy friends incoporate a dream, a significant one they have, (usually every one has a dream that means something, the re-occurs throughout the years) And they encorporate the dream in a tattoo.

So did you get this done since you asked about it the day before yesterday, or is it a whole different Star Wars rebel logo...?
I generally would have respect for an artist who told me that something was technically unfeasible, or wouldn't work well, or that it was beyond their capabilities. I'd rather that than have them just plough in regardless and make a mess of it.
I'd suggest discussing with your artist other ways of representing 'outer space' rather than just pretty much colouring your whole arm in jet-black, which even if it did last perfectly would still be jolly dull. A quick spot of googling reveals a couple of approaches...

If I had a specific idea in mind for a tattoo and the artist disagreed with me, I would request a drawing of what they had in mind and then see if I like their suggestion better. If you are set on your design, with no changes, and the artist refuses to give you what you want, I'd find a different artist who would do what I'm paying them to do. I've had my designs modified by the tattoo artist before, but only with my ok ahead of time.

Seems to me that such an award winning artist would know how to make your idea work. Kind of sounds to me like he just didn't want to put in the extra effort. I would go to another artist. My artist is always ready and willing to trade cash for bad a.ss tats. (but he has the flu right now)

I would listen to him, tattoo artists that have gotten that recognition and that much experience know what they are talking about. If he says it won't look like what you want, then I'd take his word for it because you wouldn't want to go ahead and get it done, spend the dough, and be unhappy with it would you?

if your artist is talented i would trust him. whenever an artist says something won't look good... listen to them! because they have definitely seen enough horrible tattoos to last a lifetime. whatever my artist says, goes. i would leave it up to my artist to extend on the current tattoo. it's what i did for my backpiece. i asked him what he thought would go with what i already have and i liked his idea and tadaa!
