Do not use "caliente". That's the literal meaning, but said to a person doesn't mean the same than in English, since it's slang.
At least in some countries, if you say that somebody is "caliente", it means that he/she is horny, not "hot".
One way to say it would be: "Estás bueno/a".
(That's also slang and it has the meaning you are looking for, which is not exactly the same than saying you are handsome or beautiful).
There are probably other slang words used in Mexico that I don't remember right now, but I'm sure some Mexican friends will give us a hand here! :]

Miss Vero is right, I would chose her answer, besides, in some countries, it is not too nice to tell someone (especially a woman) that she's hot. It is a little.... welll lets say that it is not the way to treat a lady. Ah, and by the way, "mexican" is not a language. Spanish is.

Okay first of all if you tell a girl or a guy they are "caliente" he or she is going to think they have a fever.
If you are refering to how they look or your are trying to say they are very good looking which in english slang would be "hot".... then you would say:
Proper-
To a guy- "Eres muy guapo" translate to " You are very handsome/goodlooking"
To a girl- "Eres muy linda/bella" translates to " You are very goodlooking/beautiful".
SPANISH SLANG- (To a guy or a girl)-
"Estas como quieres"
translates to "You are perfect/ bangin'/HOTT!"

I don't think "caliente" is right here.
If you are talking to a girl: Eres guapÃsima or
muy excitante will do fine.

depends if it to a guy or a girl.
To guy: Tu eres muy caliente.
To a girl: Tu eres muy guapa. Do not caliente for a girl it can sound offensive and be taken wrong if you are not together.

hot means caliente, but the phrase you are hot (trying to say that your temperature is elevated) in a literal translation meaning "tu estas caliente", but this is not the actual meaning of this sentence the meaning you are looking for is to say that that person has a certain sex appeal, so the term you are lookin for is, "Estas bien buena"(For her), "Estas bien bueno" (For him), and if you want to go in a mos superlative way, you can say lots of things:
"Estas bien buenota" (Her)--> buenote (Him)
Mamacita (her) Papacito(Him)
And a cultural extra, in mexico we do not speak spanish, and our country name is not mexico, but people does not know, the thing is we are used just to say that, we speak a language named Castillian...wich of course comes from Spanish in combination with the native dialects, and the name of my marvelous country is Estados Unidos Mexicanos, wich means Mexican United States....
