Spaghetti and meat sauce. You can buy pasta and jarred sauce really cheap at surplus grocery stores. Also macaroni and cheese with ground meat added or ham or some other meat added. Chop Suei is also a great inexpensive meal with rice. A big pot of vegetable soup with dumplings or homemade bis cuts and a salad is also a option. Go to cooks.com and gets lots more.
The most important thing is not how much food you have, but that you are together and love each other. These are the things that you kids will remember with grateful hearts and want to pass down to their kids.

Meatloaf, creamed potatoes and green beans....
Spaghetti and meatballs with a salad and garlic bread....
Fried chicken, mac and cheese and some veggie....
Lasagna, salad and garlic bread....
Have breakfast instead...French Toast, bacon and eggs...
Then there is the old standby of Hamburger Helper. Try the
Cheeseburger Macaroni. It comes in a twin pack and
feeds up to 10 people if you cook both packs. Serve it
with a salad and veggies.

Rice, corn, and beans, maybe with some cheese, These are some real basics that when combined provide a pretty balanced diet and can be had cheaply.

You can mix it all up or serve separately. You can use different types of beans. You can add some salsa or tomatoes, maybe some onions.

WOW! I thought you said "BIG" family? Must be my eye sight!
Try spagetti and meatballs or sausage or both! Macaroni and cheese. Pot Roast with potatoes, onions, carrots using chuck roast. Hot dogs and hamburgers. Ciches.
If you master this for that "BIG" family you can come over and cook for mine. Both sides were close to one hundred!
