I would have more than a day, if you are going to be talking to people, you need a few days for it to start to heal properly.
Very painful, but will get better.

Not at all if your still having pain. It takes some patients a few days to get back to normal.
After 24 hours have passed you can do some jaw exercises by using 2 damp hot towels for compresses (microwave works great for this) place these on the jaw area and then open and close the mouth, stretching a little wider each time, do this several times a day for the next few days. This helps to relax the muscles of the jaw and get the blood circulating again to aid in the healing process. It also helps you to regain the full function of your mouth a lot faster. Most of our patients said they had immediate relief and felt it was a tremendous help in the healing process. Give it a try, I'm sure it will help you.
Also be sure to take all prescribed medications and add Advil or Motrin 600-800 mg to help reduce the inflammation and aid in pain reduction. Take this about 2 hours after the pain medication so you don't upset your stomach with too much medication, and this also helps to prolong the effects of the pain medication as well.
Hope I've been of some help today and good luck with your recovery. You'll be ready to go back to work in a couple of days. Don't worry, no one will think your a wimp, most everyone has had this same procedure done. Good luck!

I agree with above poster. If you manage to lose your clot because you didn't let it heal properly, you may get a dry socket. Though common, and easy to treat it is very painful. You are supposed to keep your blood pressure down. If you get an annoying customer, you could compromise the healing process as well ;) Take off today if you can and be well.

Your body will heal better if you can rest completely for 48 hours. The hole where the tooth was needs to form a clot to protect it from infection.
Most oral surgeons will provide you with a note for your employer if you ask.

Alot of people do, depending on the pain, and if you have to speak alot on the job, you might have trouble speaking clearly, so it might be a good idea to tell your boss you might not be in.
