It doesn't have a value except as a keepsake. And, it's not used anymore. We have YTL (New Turkish Lira) now.

A couple of years ago the exchange rate between Turkey and UK was approximately 3,000,000 Turkish lira= £1, therefore your 1,000 L note was then worth less than 1/2 p, if it was in use, which it wasn't. Turkey changed the currency by knocking off 6 zeros and renaming their money the new Turkish lira = ytl. Now 1,000L is worth nothing at all, it's a souvenir.

In terms of purchasing power, 1 ytl (new lira) is more or less the same as $1 (although exchange rate is different and changes daily).
So for whatever you can buy for $1000 in America (in an average Mid State), you will need 1000 ytl (new lira) in Turkey.
However if you are talking about the old lira, the exchange rate is "one millionth" => 1 ytl = 1 million old lira.

Therefore 1000 old lira in Turkey can buy 1 millionth of what $1000 can buy in America (0.1 cent, one-tenth of 1 cent)

1000 liras now would be around 600 dollars.
if it is from before 2005 then it is no longer usable. turkeys economy had been dwindling for so long that they had 6 zeros for a unit of currency. recently howevver turkey has finally gotten a good prime minister. he is the first in which the econmony has excelled forward. people are getting really rich and citizens are growing wealthy.

1000TL would roughly a little less than £500 - and all the other answers are correct despite the thumbs down. You will not have time to save any more as you're going in 2 wks time, so you will have to budget while you're there either on your trips or drinks. As for changing your money, the rate here has lowered in the last 2 weeks its now 2.7 TL to the pound so if you're getting a better rate in the UK exchange before you come, if not there are lots of exchange places where you can in Marmaris.
