We all know about "religious fanatics" but I find now that there is a breed of "fanatic atheists" trying to convince everybody else that their view is the only one correct.

yeah, there are some. i'm an atheist, but i have quite a set of spiritual beliefs (just not a deity) and i've been treated in the same manner that those fanatics treat christians & other religions. i was surprised, as a few were very judgemental & rude and all i was trying to get was info about what a certain belief would be called. not like i was even saying that i thought the belief was right, or even that i specified that it was my belief. i had 7 atheists criticize it and 1 christian (and most of those didn't even bother to answer the question) it really lowered my respect for the general population of atheists as a whole.
i think that those specific people have no belief at all in anything spiritual.

I'm an atheist and I've been posting here for six months and I haven't seen very many atheist fanatics.

yes. i also find it interesting how "fanatic atheists" love to point out when a Christian is "forcing" their views on them...but when an atheist does it, it seems to be just fine. Kind of hypocritical in my opinion.

Well, yes, there are some. I've posted this appeal before without it seeming to make any impact, but I have hope every time I do it that it'll be read, understood, and respected.

(I'm pretty sure that this is impossible with evangelical religious people (of whom I'm not one), but I've got a certain amount of hope that atheists can agree with this:)

My message to atheists:

I'm perfectly happy to leave your spiritual life to yourself, and not make any attempt to convert you or display any kind of superiority because I'm religious and you're not.. That's because I honestly don't think I'm superior because of my belief.

I'm more than willing....I'm *happy* to work with you on projects and towards goals that we have in common, without ever thinking that you have the "wrong' motivations for doing so because your motivations aren't religious.

I'd prefer, however, that when I'm having a conversation with other Pagans about Paganism, that you don't introduce yourself into the conversation to tell us that we're delusional. I promise not to EVER butt into your conversations with other atheists to tell you that there's something wrong with you for not believing as I do.

Can ya'll agree to this???

I would have to agree with you on this. No one likes to talk about the atheist fanatics but they have no problem talking about religion

There are fanatics about every religion and philosophy and ideology in the world.

It's just one more sad consequence of being human.

I wonder if one "feels" that a certain condition exists, or whether one "thinks" that a certain condition exists.

The two operations are very different.

Yep. You force us into that for political reasons. You just won't let us be with your faerie tales and we have to fight back.
