It depends on what you want the dog to be. I can't really suggest any breeds, but I did locate a website that will allow you to take a test to see what breeds would fit what you want. There are others if you just look it up with dog breed chooser. For my money, the best small-medium dog is a beagle. Now I have a lab, but those are medium-large. Beagles are pretty hyper, but to give a real recommendation, I would need to know more about what you are looking for.

Go to www.akc.org and look at the list of breeds they will tell you size temperment activity level and everything.

I suggest pugs first of course. Not too energetic 10 lb dogs. Need a lot of love and attention. A rather needy breed. If you want a more aloof breed go with a small terrier breed. West highland white terriers are good. Very tiny and not so needy but still want to be near you sometimes. Corgis are wonderful dogs as well as beagles, pomeranians and many others.

I highly suggest the akc website.

Different dogs are better for different people
Do you live in an apartment? House?
Have a backyard? A Park close to you?
Do you want a dog that is a lap sitter?
Or do you want a dog that's very active?
Do you want a dog some where in the middle?
What type of live style do you live?
These questions will help you get a perfect dog
Good luck

I guess it depends on whether you have kids how much time you can spend with it, but on the whole I would say stay away from purebreds they tend to have to many problems, being crossbred & such. I have Shih Tzu's cross Japanese Chin very cute loyal loveable dogs> Terriers are smart but high strung bouncy little dogs.

Well there are many small to mediem sized dogs. You can have a pug, terrior, cocker spaniel, maybe a beagle, affenpinscher, chinese crested, schnazer, Lhasa aspo, maltezer, pomeranian, yorkshire terrior and a toy fox terrior.

Thats only a few of the dogs but they're cute and if you do get one take care of it! :-)

You can search all canine organisations of different countries for different breeds(sorry, don't have the URL's), though it would be better if you consulted the local chapter of PFA.
The choice of dog depends on what you want, eg its nature, its beauty(for shows), etc.
It would be better if you consult an expert.
Good luck!!!!!!
